U.S. Set For 'Do Or Die' Nuclear Talks With Iran This Weekend

The stage is now set for this weekend, as the U.S. is scheduled to hold nuclear talks with Iran. The meeting is going to be on Saturday in Oman, with Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff on hand for the U.S.

One of the big questions going in is, who really has the leverage?

"Taking sort of the longer view, I think Trump does have the most leverage" said national security expert Harry Kazianis, president of the Rogue States Project, and also founder of 1945.com.

And while Trump has the leverage, he may not be able to use it to get what he wants.

"I think the only way he can really get a result is, he's got to really drive those sanctions and drive Iran's economy into the ground, and basically get them on their hands and knees, essentially begging to take the sanctions off and willing to agree to anything" Kazianis told KTRH.

Which could happen eventually, but we'll have to wait and see about this weekend.

"The challenge is, I think the Iranian's are pretty committed to when it comes to getting a nuclear weapon" noted Kazianis, "It's going to be interesting to see if the Trump administration is able to find some sort of formula. I don't see it happening, but this is Donald Trump we're talking about so it's possible."

Trump has referred to the meetings as 'do or die', and last month he threatened to bomb Iran if they did not engage in nuclear talks.
