The American military has been on a backward slide into Leftist gender ideology for a few decades now. The wokeness has invaded the military to the point where the U.S. Navy last year made a social media push, and Tik Toks, bragging about their transgender acceptance. It has led to low recruitment numbers, and people losing respect for the service.
But after years of coddling the behavior, the tide is turning, and the American military is finally trying to return to normal. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth a few weeks ago announced the firing of the Army's and Air Force's top uniformed lawyers, also known as judge advocates general, or 'JAGs.' That is in addition to orders barring transgenders from joining the military.
Former Army Captain and lawyer Sean Timmons says this boils down to changing legal representation, and a change of the guard in the military's gender ideology guard.
"Bringing in new leadership, that is not going to be poisoned by the far-left ideology of wokeness is entirely understandable," he says.
The logic is sound. If you are a defendant in a court case, and your lawyer is not giving you correct representation, or trying to get you to take a plea when you know you are innocent, you would change lawyers. This is essentially that. It is a way for President Trump to find people more aligned with his views and policy ideas.
It also finally begins the process of unwinding three decades of woke pushes in the military, and getting back to basics. While two JAGs might not seem like a huge influence, they actually bring more to the table than you might think.
"The focus should be on killing the enemy, not worry about gender...they can have a huge difference, because the focus previously was on diversity training, gender ideology, and feminist talking points...which is not very conducive to war fighting," says Timmons.
It is a step in the right direction, but there is more to be done to fully return the military to normal. It is a long road back from the depths of the far Left.
But even more so than 'de-woking' the military, and fixing the problems Democrats have coddled, and encouraged, the last few decades, there is another aspect. In President Trump's first term, he was inexperienced and surrounded himself with snakes in the grass, who plagued his ability to accomplish what he wanted.
This move to trim the fat, and move on from the Leftist people, gives him more shield.
"To prevent further deep state, bureaucratic resistance, having new leadership is absolutely vital if you are going to accomplish your policy objectives you ran on, and plan to implement," Timmons says.
Again, it is a long, dark road to climb back from the depths of the Leftish agenda push. But the military is taking the right steps to rectify that, and bring the service back among the respect it deserves.
