The United States says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has agreed to sign a mineral deal.
The agreement was apparently revealed in a letter Zelenskyy sent to Trump earlier week following their tense Oval Office meeting. President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff told reporters Thursday that Zelenskyy has offered to sign the deal.
"We'll see if he follows through," the special envoy told reporters outside the White House.
Witkoff told reporters "there's a path back" to the White House for Zelenskyy following his letter to Trump.
"He's apologized. He said he's grateful," Witkoff said of Zelenskyy. "He said that he wants to work toward peace.
Witkoff also said the U.S. and Ukraine are trying to meet in Saudi Arabia soon for talks on ceasefire framework with Russia.
"That's ultimately the goal here," he added. "President Trump is an outcome-oriented man. He wants a good outcome, and a good outcome is peace. No more deaths and a better world."
