Pedestrian Killed in SW Houston: Police

A 70-year-old woman who was walking a dog has died following a hit-and-run car accident on Houston's Southwest side.

As she walked across North Braeswood Road near Stella Link -- with her husband just a few yards away -- about 6:30 Friday evening, she was hit by what Houston police describe as a white SUV.

The incident happened too fast for her husband to save her from the driver going westbound on North Braeswood.

Pamela Pepperell is described as a former Baylor College of Medicine nurse onetime midwife.

She was pronounced dead a short time after she was hit by the vehicle.

Police have started a search for the driver of the white SUV that struck and killed Ms. Pepperell.
