Trump Administration Makes A Move To Stop China From Buying Texas Farmland

The Trump administrations USDA is looking into a federal option that would ban China from buying U.S. farmland.

There still is not any such ban here in Texas, and it is something that has become a growing concern and issue.

"I don't know how you could justify letting our enemies buy our farmland, give them access to our grid, and let them buy a 140,000 acres next to Laughlin Air Force Base" said Texas Agriculture Commissioner, Sid Miller.

In the 2023 legislative session, a ban on hostile nations buying farmland in Texas passed in the Senate, but was then defeated in the Texas House. That cannot happen again.

"The Democrats were running the House, we're hopeful that it's not the case this time that we can actually pass this legislation" Miller told KTRH, "I don't understand why Democrats don't agree with me on that."

Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick has called a ban a legislative priority this session, and Trump's new U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary, Brooke Rollins is considering federal action.

"I would like to see Texas follow Arkansas' lead" noted Miller, "They kicked the Chinese out, so if they bought land here they have one year to divest. If you don't, the state will take over and kick you out."
