Trump To Address Congress: Reports

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives is inviting President Donald Trump to address a joint session of Congress on Tuesday, March 4th.

The Reuters news agency reported Saturday evening that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt has confirmed that President Trump will make the address.

If so, it would be his first such speech since he was reelected last year, but would not technically be a "State of the Union" speech, since those are usually reserved for presidents who have been on the job at least a year.

In a letter inviting President Trump to speak, Speaker Mike Johnson does not use the term "State of the Union," but the if it happens it will likely have the extensive protocols reserved for presidents' annual reports to Congress.

The Speaker wrote to the President, “Your administration and the 119th Congress working together have the chance to make these next four years some of the most consequential in our nation’s history.”

And in a post to social media, he invited President Trump "to share his America First vision for our future."

“Thanks to your strong leadership and bold action in the first days of your presidency, the United States is already experiencing a resurgence of patriotism, unity, and hope for the future," Mr. Johnson said.
