The U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to be Homeland Security Secretary in an easy vote Saturday morning.

The final vote was 59-34 with six Democratic senators voting with Republicans to confirm Noem for the role. Noem's nomination advanced out of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) earlier this week in a 13-2 vote.

Noem is seen as a key figure in Trump's administration to crack down on illegal immigration.

"I will ensure that our exceptional, extraordinary border patrol agents have all the tools and resources and support they need to carry out their mission effectively," Noem told the committee during a confirmation hearing.

Trump's nominees that have gotten confirmed by the Senate so far also include Secretary of State Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
