The Big 12 Conference is expanding its reach south of the border. The Big 12 announced that Kansas and Houston will play each other in men's and women's basketball at Mexico City's Arena CDMX in December of 2024. Women's soccer teams and baseball teams will compete in exhibitions against teams from Mexico following the meetings between the Jayhawks and Cougars. There is potential for a football bowl game in 2026 in Monterrey. Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said that "through Big 12 Mexico, our student-athletes will have the opportunity to compete in an international setting, and our conference will have the chance to showcase our brand across Mexico."
