Texas Governor Greg Abbott has signed a bill to crack down on the growing crime of catalytic converter thefts. It's named after Deputy Darren Almendarez. The Harris County Sheriff's deputy was shot and killed while trying to stop three men who he caught under his car, trying to saw off a piece of the exhaust. The new law stiffens criminal penalties and gives prosecutors the ability to treat thefts as organized crime.
