Move over, Waterline. The Wilson Tower is looking to steal the title of "tallest tower in Texas."
The Wilson Tower, an 80-story apartment building, will be built in downtown Austin, real estate company Wilson Capital announced Monday (November 14), according to MySanAntonio. The 1,035-foot tower will be located at 410 E. 5th Street. This means the Waterline, a 1,022-foot residential tower that broke ground in September, will no longer be the tallest building in the state.
Once complete, this new project will house 450 apartments, ranging from studios to four-bedroom penthouses, plus a floor-level restaurant. In the building's four floors of amenities, you'll find a pool, fitness and wellness center, residential cocktail lounge, movie theater and co-working spaces. Your pets will have a place to play, too — a playroom, grooming center and dog park area will be included in the property.
"We are proud to be part of the redevelopment of East 5th Street – being a native Austinite, it has been a journey to watch the evolution of the city over the last decade," Wilson Capital founder and President Taylor Wilson said.
Construction on the Wilson Tower is scheduled to begin Summer 2023. Waterline is slated to open in late 2026. The current title for the tallest building in Texas belongs to the JP Morgan Chase Tower in downtown Houston, which stands at 1,002 feet.
