Woman's Body Found In Car's Trunk After Crash, Police Chase In Beaumont

The body of a Houston woman was found in the trunk of a car after the vehicle's driver was involved in a police chase in Beaumont.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers found the body of Briana Teirra Johnson, 28, after the white Honda they were following crashed on Saturday, November 28.

Troopers tried to pull over Victor Campbell Jr., 35, for speeding on Saturday morning in Chambers County, which is 50 miles east of Houston. Campbell led the troopers on a chase that ended in downtown Beaumont when Campbell crashed the Honda into a concrete barrier, Fox 26 reported.

Campbell was arrested and is charged with felony evading arrest, driving while intoxicated, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse.

An investigation of the car led authorities back to a Houston duplex where Johnson lived, ABC 13 reported.

Campbell occasionally lived with Johnson, but their relationship to each other is unclear.

Security footage from the duplex allegedly shows Campbell loading Johnson's body into the car's trunk on early Saturday morning.

Johnson's family believes that she was murdered and has started a GoFundMe to pay for funeral expenses.

Update: An autopsy determined that Johnson was strangled to death, ABC 13 reported on Friday. The investigation into her death is ongoing and no arrests have been made yet.
