Man Accused Of Murdering N. Houston Cracker Barrel Manager Was Free On Bond

The Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) identified the man suspected of murdering Cracker Barrel Manager Robin Baucom during an attempted robbery over the weekend.

HCSO says Nathan Humphrey, 28, was shot as deputies tried to arrest him.

They say he is one of the men responsible for the murder of Baucom on Saturday morning.

As Fox 26’s Randy Wallace points out, Humphrey has a long criminal rap sheet and never should have been free.

Wallace reports:

“28-year-old Nathan Humphrey Jr was a career criminal.
"Here's someone, as a teenager, he gets five years in the penitentiary back in 2012 for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon," said Andy Kahan with Crime Stoppers.
In August 2021, Humphrey was freed from jail with a personal recognizance bond for a terroristic threat charge. He never returned to court but picked up two felony assault charges.
He was a wanted fugitive when officers say he gunned down 59-year-old Robin Baucom, the manager of a northside Cracker Barrel...
"People are paying the price, and people are dying out there. In a lot of these cases, the defendants quite frankly shouldn't be out, to begin with," said Kahan.

According to investigators at around 6am on Saturday morning, Humphrey and another man tried to steal an employee’s purse at the Cracker Barrel in the 14800 block of the North Freeway.

Baucom was killed after authorities said she tried to block two men from entering the restaurant during the attempted robbery.

The family of Robin Baucom put out a statement, saying:

“Robin was one of the hardest working women I have ever seen. It didn't matter if the job required 12 hours or 23 hours, she was there. Many nights she didn't get home until 2 or 3 a.m. She worked for Cracker Barrell for 34 years. She loved her job, her customers and her employees and her family. She absolutely worshipped her three grandchildren, two boys, Brent and Brandon, her newest granddaughter, Lilah who is 10 months old. She had three children, Mark, Matthew and Tina whom she loved with her entire heart. They always had a mom with out reaching hands if they ever needed anything. She was always trying to help wherever she was needed. She is our hero and we hope she will be remembered as a hero because she lost her life trying to protect her employees and Cracker Barrel. She was always taking care of business wherever she was needed. Please if you know anything call and let someone know."
