California Convicted Murderer Released Decades Early Over COVID Fears

Terebea Williams was convicted in 2001 of first-degree murder, use of a firearm, carjacking, and kidnapping in the death of 23-year-old Kevin “John” Ruska Jr.

She was sentenced to 84 years-to-life in prison but served less than a quarter of that sentence before being freed from prison last week over COVID-19 concerns.

So served less than a quarter of her sentence.Understandably, the family of Ruska is livid.

The murder was gruesome as Williams held Ruska at gunpoint in February of 1998, putting him in the trunk of his car until she shot him in the abdomen and then continued to drive 750 miles from Washington State to Davis. She then tied him to a chair in a motel, where he ultimately bled to death.

Dena Love, the sister of Ruska, tells Fox News: “it's absolutely devastating and mind-boggling that this has happened. And here we are, 22 years after his horrific murder. We're right back in that same place that we were 22 years ago."

Love adds, that California authorities "should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen, that the rights of the prisoners are more important than the rights of the victims and the victims' families. And it's absolutely shameful that this is being allowed to happen."

As CBS13 Sacramento points out, the California Department of Correction did not offer the family of Ruska an explanation for the early release or even an opportunity for them to fight it. They report that a department spokesman simply said their goal is to maximize space in prison in an effort to manage the spread of COVID-19.

In other words, they need to free up the jails for all the people violating the shut and mask orders.
