Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that his office had secured another massive win for taxpayers. This time, he did it by assisting in what his office is calling "the largest health care fraud enforcement action in American history."
According to a press release from the AG, his office's Medicaid Fraud Control Unit played a "major role" in the enforcement action, which resulted in criminal charges against 30 people tied to over a dozen health care fraud schemes in the state.
According to the release, these fraud schemes resulted in over $177 million in fraudulent billings, nearly $2 million in kickbacks, and what Paxton's office calls the "unlawful diversion" of over 10 million opioid pills.
Paxton said in the statement that this is just another example of how the state fights fraud head-on and added that "Together with President Trump and dedicated people at the Department of Justice, we are dismantling criminal enterprises that steal from taxpayers and endanger lives."
