Governor Greg Abbott called the first of what he says will be several special sessions on Monday evening, just hours after the 88th legislative session adjourned. Abbott says the special session will focus on property tax cuts and human smuggling. Despite the state's surplus of nearly $33 billion, the House and Senate were unable to reconcile competing plans to enact property tax cuts for Texans. The first special session was set to begin at 9 p.m. Monday. The dates and times for the other special sessions haven't been announced.
