Texas Bar Owners Create Line Of Beer For Dogs

A couple that owns a pair of bars in downtown Houston have mixed their two favorite things, dogs and beer. Megan and Steve Long decided to brew dog-friendly beer so that their four-legged companions could join them when they go out on the town for a few drinks. Good Boy Dog Beer comes in three styles: IPA Lot in the Yard, Mailman Malt Licker, and Session.squirrel. The beer is non-alcoholic and contains natural ingredients that help keep your dog healthy.

The Longs had been toying with the idea for a few years after having to make homemade food for one of their older dogs. Back in January, they decided to give it a try, setting up a brewery in a warehouse owned by a friend. By August, they were ready to go and on their first try, they brewed 500 cans worth of beer.

“We brewed one night, and we brewed, I don’t know, 500 cans or so. And we went out to sell it, and we were like ‘Let’s see if bars like it!’ And we sold to like five bars, in the next day. So we were like, ‘Let’s not sell anymore. Let’s go home and brew,‘” Megan told the Houston Chronicle. “We thought people were going to be like ‘Yeah, sure, maybe. Let me think about it.’ Because when reps come and talk to us, sometimes we don’t always have a space.”

So far, the beer is sold at 15 bars around Houston and costs around $5 per can.
